is_constrained_map in corefinement_difference_remeshed.cpp example

Hi everyone
 
I started playing around with CGAL this week and have a question about the corefinement_difference_remeshed.cpp example (https://github.com/CGAL/cgal/blob/master/Polygon_mesh_processing/examples/Polygon_mesh_processing/corefinement_difference_remeshed.cpp)
 
On line 52 it sais:
//create a property on edges to indicate whether they are constrained
  Mesh::Property_map<edge_descriptor,bool> is_constrained_map =
  mesh1.add_property_map<edge_descriptor,bool>("e:is_constrained", false).first;
 
and the is_constrained_map is later used in line 64 to compute the difference of both meshes.
What exacty does this and why is it done?
